The use of 2-flutes solid carbide straight router bit(steel shank) is the same as that of ordinary T.C.T straight router bit. However, due to their different manufacturing processes and tool structure, the service life time and cost-performance of the tool itself will be very different.
The structure of the 2-flutes solid carbide straight router bit(steel shank) is: the shank part is heat-treated 45# steel, and the cutting edge part is solid carbide. The advantages of this structure are: because the cutting edge is made of solid carbide, the strength of the cutting edge is equivalent to that of solid carbide tools, but because the shank is made of ordinary steel, it is greatly reduced the manufacturing cost of the tool & greatly improves the cost performance of the tool. Especially on some tools with a large diameter shank but a small diameter cutting edge (for example, a tool with the shank diameter is 12.7mm and the cutting edge diameter is only 3.175mm), which effectively reduces the manufacturing cost of the tool and the customer's cost of use.
On the contrary, the skeleton of the cutting edge part of the ordinary T.C.T straight router bit is still ordinary steel. Even after quenching and tempering heat treatment, it will inevitably cause the deformation of the steel-base skeleton of the cutting edge or even the diswelding of the cutting edge in some violent scenarios. Although the price is cheap, but the service life and safety are worse than the solid carbide straight router bit(steel shank).
